Workshop
Band coaching
Band coaching covers the role of the bandleader, rehearsal processes, group dynamics, collaborative creativity, rhythm mastery, arrangement techniques, time management, goal setting, and fostering creativity.
After many years of playing, composing, recording, touring, and leading various projects, I realised that fundamental skills essential for band members were often overlooked in conservatory lessons. Much of what I learned was through trial and error, as well as from my peers. Being in a band requires not only musical skills but also dedication, organisation, patience, and vision. The key to a strong band lies in maximising each musician’s potential and boosting motivation among all members. This workshop is designed for those seeking to create a healthier, more professional, successful, and cohesive musical project..
Workshop
Modern Electric Guitar
This workshop explores modern electric guitar techniques, including open-string harmony, incorporating counterpoint, mastering fretboard navigation, improvising in diverse styles, complex rhythms and claves, understanding scales and arpeggios, and establishing effective practice routines.
Throughout my journey with the guitar, I’ve developed a distinctive sound and approach rooted in a blend of musical influences. Instead of merely learning licks or emulating others’ styles, I challenged myself to think different and craft out my own sound. While I drew inspiration from favourite guitarists and musicians, I always pursued creativity above imitation. Cultivating curiosity, patience, and dedication is crucial, as they form the foundation for achieving musical goals. In this workshop, I share exercises, routines, pitfalls to avoid, and insights from my own experiences studying music and the guitar.
Workshop
Modern Composition in Popular Music
This workshop delves into composition techniques, including 7-parameter analysis, production methods, stylistic exploration, arrangement strategies, harmonic structures, storytelling through music, melodic development, working with Digital Audio Workstations, establishing routines, and cultivating a personal style.
When I first ventured into composing my own music, I felt overwhelmed and directionless. Today, those feelings persist, but with experience, I’ve learned to navigate them and, importantly, to trust my intuition and ears. By employing tools and concepts, I’ve been able to bring alive the melodies in my mind, or create them when they were absent. This workshop offers an honest exploration of the challenges in musical composition, along with practical exercises and ideas to overcome creative blocks. It’s about awakening the composer within you.
